Not sure what to say?

Diet Eman is the sister of my grandfather Aarjen Eman who lost his life in the Dutch East Indies in World War II. I was named after him. Unfortunately, I did not know Diet was related to me until her death was announced on Dutch television on September 4, 2019. It was strange to discover because I have always lived near Nijkerk and Holk, about ten kilometers away and often visited Nijkerk. In 2018 I traveled for five weeks in the United States and had I known that Diet was my great-aunt, I...

Dear Aunt Diet, Today you would have been 104 years old. I will always regret not being able to visit you in your final years, and will always remember your kindness, caring, and wise counsel just when I needed you throughout my life. You have always been a source of comfort and inspiration for me and a role model for others. I hope you are at peace and that you and Hein are finally together.

I often remember Diet with amazement, respect and fraternity. I had the privilege to work alongside Diet during many medical mission trips. I was amazed by her skill and experiences. What i treasured most was the talks we had while walking the long trails or at the end of the day sitting in the dark. An amazing woman whose memory I treasure and look forward to seeing again in heaven

Dearest Diet, I think of you often and know you are still right here in spirit. Thank you for your inspiration. I have shared your story many times since your passing. Again, we are so grateful that you came to visit us when you did. You are still loved and missed.

Dear Diet... I think of you often, especially when I am facing obstacles in my life. "What would Diet do?" Your approach to solutions was always filled with kindness and love. I always appreciated your honest, no-nonsense philosophy towards solutions. Thank you for walking the talk. Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. We never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to...

I read Diet's book "Things We Couldn't Say" several years ago and have never forgotten her riveting account.

As I read, I shivered at the heart pounding stress of her time in the Resistance and wondered how she held on, not for days, but years in that crucible. An answer comes when Diet laughs at the strange twist of fate that had them, on their knees, praying for God's help to rob a coupon office.

Her faith, courage, and humor will remain indelibly with me. Godspeed, Diet.

Truly a life well-lived; her legacy is historic, her courage inspiring. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

For those days when life's everyday challenges seem insurmountable, long may she live in our memory as an example of fortitude and grace. A fellow chocolate lover and admirer.

Hi, just minutes ago I finished reading Things We Couldn't Say. I had started it weeks ago. I wanted to know if Diet was still alive. It is one of those "God moments" to find out that I was becoming acquainted with her during her last days. Her book and Corrie Ten Boom's ministry have had a great impact on me, and I intend to tell others how they served the Lord throughout their lives. I'm so grateful for the wonderful heritage given to me by my Dutch ancestors and the Christ I accepted...
