It is one of the great blessings of our life to have known Dennis and his wife Karen, the couple that introduced and brought together my parents at LSU so many years ago. There are so many incredible memories of the times that we got to see Dennis, both when he visited Baton Rouge and when we traveled to Greece. We´ll always remember him as a kind, compassionate, generous, and lively soul.....and nobody ever quite made my parents laugh the way that Dennis did. He had a natural talent for it....

Dennis, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love you have shown our family all of these years. Over 50 years ago, you and Karen introduced another young man from Greece to another girl from Nebraska. Two sons and five grandchildren later, the Plakidas family is forever grateful for your love and that of your wonderful family. Rest In Peace, with all our love, dear friend. Kostas

Rest in Peace, my dear friend and Koumparos! Thanks for the memories. Shirley and I have always been so proud of you. May God bring peace to Karen, Eleni, Panos and Billy.

Karen, I am Don Phillips' daughter. Ross and I were sad to learn of Dennis' death. What an outstanding man he was. I remember well when you two were dating. We are so sorry for your family's loss. Lovingly, Donna Munson

As a young student in an astronomy summer course he taught at the Baton Rouge LASC Planetarium 50 years ago, I still remember Dennis Simopoulos as one of the most gifted teachers I ever had the privilege of knowing. His passion for teaching and patience with young hyperactive kids was amazing. He will always be a legend, and greatly missed in this universe.

What I forgot to say was that a big part of his gift was a chance for our children, who were sort of alone at school, to finally be able to meet their counterparts from across the city. My husband checked out the class, and reported, "It looks like a nest of owls - they all are wearing glasses." That was all the reassurance I needed.
