It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dirk Damon Chustz, age 61, who left our world on Sunday, August 18, 2024. Dirk was born on September 11, 1962, and was a native of Slidell, Louisiana. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend.
His arrival in Heaven was preceded by his mother, Audrey Kay Ritter Chustz, and his grandparents, Georgette and Ida Chustz, and Lawrence “Coby” and Audrey Ritter.
Dirk will forever be missed by his immediate family, including his father, James Gerald Chustz, sister, Charisse Chustz Brown (Terry), niece, Miranda Brown Rutland (Michael), nephew, Chandler James Brown, and great nephew, Cole James Rutland. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family and an abundance of friends.
Dirk was a hard worker and was always there to lend a hand to friends and family. He traveled the country with Total Safety for many years as an expert safety technician. As a lead safety inspector, he assisted companies in achieving the highest safety standards while being in compliance with industry regulations. For the last four years of his career, Dirk worked for Textron Systems as an electrician. At Textron, he specialized in government vehicles and military armored cars. Dirk also owned his own business, Alarms Plus, which focused on residential and commercial high-end security and surveillance systems.
Dirk thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On the weekends, you could find him cruising the lake in his boat, fishing, and having a great time with friends. He also enjoyed Sunday evening sunset boat rides with his niece and nephew. Dirk was a great cook and enjoyed grilling anything, including vegetables, meat, fish, and charbroiled oysters.
We find solace in knowing that Dirk is no longer suffering but is now at peace in Heaven, embraced by the eternal love of God and wrapped in the arms of his mother, Audrey Kay.
Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 400 Westchester Blvd, Slidell LA 70458, on Friday August 30, 2024.
Visitation will begin at 10:00am, followed by the mass at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lewy Body Dementia Association in memory of Dirk Chustz.

Charisse, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved brother, Dirk. I´m sorry I didn´t get to speak to you Friday at the church. The eulogies were funny, and the mass was very beautiful. Dirk was a funny kid in grade school, and kept us laughing! I remember he could turn his eyelids inside out! I hope it eases your pain knowing he is at peace now with your wonderful mother in heaven.

Charisse I want you to know my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I know that your brother meant so much to so many, but had a special place in your heart. This life will never be the same, but God has a plan for you and will get you to a better place..one day at a time.
I will always remember how good looking and sophisticated Dirk was. He loved to tease you and adored your children as if they were his own. You brought so much joy to him. The bond you shared can never...

I’m so sad by this news. I remember when I was a student at Our Lady of Lourdes in 6th or 7th grade, Mrs. Chustz would hire me to watch Dirk and Charisse after school so she could go to meetings or just grade papers. They were great kids! I’m so sorry he is gone so soon! Love and prayers for Charisse and family! ❤Nancy Babington Champagne

Extremely saddened by your loss. My hope is that your family, with time, fills your hearts with the many fond memories shared. I have many of these memories growing up in Westchester, going to Southeastern, and fishing with Dirk. God bless you all.
