Dizzy "Diz" Dean Davis, 72, of Fairmont passed away on July 23, 2017 at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born in Flemington on December 27, 1944 a son of the late Arthur Davis and Noca (Knight) Davis. Mr. Davis graduated from Flemington High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Taylor County Board of Education as a Teacher at the Technical Center in Building Construction. Diz was a member of the VFW Post 629 in Fairmont. He was a Christian by Faith and was devoted to his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren . His favorite past times were Golf and Boating. He was a golfer at Paradise Lake, Tygart Lake and White Day Golf courses. He was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Susan King Matheny Curry Davis of Fairmont. In addition to his wife he is also survived by one daughter Sabrina Gail Davis Murphy and her husband Wayne of Alabama; one step son Ken Morris and his wife Lisa of Tennessee; four step-daughters Elizabeth Norris of Alabama, Hillarey Carder and her husband Dan of Masontown, Ashley Gillespie and her husband Scott of Morgantown and Erin VanGilder and her husband Brent of North Carolina; one brother Charlie Davis and his wife Debbie of West Virginia; grandchildren Jeremy Stephens, Leslie Keener, and Jessie Stephens; step grandchildren Macy Carder, Benjamin Carder, Cayton Carder, Ian Gillespie, Mairin Gillespie, Beau VanGilder, Brooke VanGilder, Slade VanGilder, Cyrus Norris, Andrew Norris, Kesha Lott, Ashley Lott, Ricky Price, and Lacy Baraglia; great grandchildren Knox Stephens, Callum Stephens, Issac Keener and Sammy Keener and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-daughter Melissa "Missy" Norris; one brother Arthur and three sisters Lindy, Mazie and Barbara Ellen. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military rites performed by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corps. So very sad to hear of the passing of Diz even though its been some time since Ive seen him he was someone you would never forget. Everyones favorite teacher. Always fun. Rest In Peace Dizzy you were truly special and will be missed!! Love Lisa & Eric

Sad to hear of Dizzy's passing. He was in the FHS class just ahead of mine. Always a nice fellow, a good sense of humor, and if I recall correctly a darn good basketball and baseball player.

My prayers go out to Mr. Davis family. I don't think that I ever knew him, but I noticed all the VanGilder names and maybe know their parents. I am from Fairmont but been gone 35 years. However I noticed Brent & Erin live in NC I also since 5/2016 live in NC which shows on this condolence. May God be with you all.
