Dalton Funeral Home - Germantown Obituary

The Last Town Crier

It’s somewhat strange to be sitting here, very much alive and well, writing my own obituary. Obviously, I left blanks for others to fill in as appropriate. So here goes:  I, Dolores A. (“DL”) Grünwald, died peacefully during the morning of...

Not sure what to say?

DL, You came into my life 20 years ago. I became Roger Neargarder's top 1 employee at Village Flower Shop here in Germantown! You and I became very close as friends. We had so much fun just joking with each other. I have so many treasured memories of you!! I have been so blessed to have known you. You DL were always so kind to me through alot of my difficulties over the past years. Thank you for making my days so much brighter!

Always upbeat with spunk, a good friend of my father's.

Erik & Katie, Your mother was indeed one of a kind. After graduating and leaving Germantown, I was a able to keep up with you through her column in the press. Having the paper forwarded, it always made me feel attached to home somehow. Her explanations of the goings-on around town kept many of us enlightened and amused. She will be missed by the many that knew her and those that she touched. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am very sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. Prior to my first election as Prosecuting Attorney in June, 1992, I met your Mother. She was always so supportive. The years following that election I enjoyed immensely our phone conversations, whether about a story she was covering, or just our lives in general. I was always an avid reader of her newspaper and column. She was a pillar in the Germantown community. You have my deepest sympathies. Your Mother and your family are in my...

I didn't know your Mother. I just very much enjoyed her obit. She must have been such a wonderful Mother. I am so very sorry for your loss. Jodi, Urbana, Ohio.

So sorry to hear of D.L.'s passing but know she is with those she loved who went before her. I first met her as an intern in the mid 1970s when I was doing a historic inventory of the Gunkel Town District. After I moved to Germantown some years later, our paths crossed many times as we had shared interests in many local issues. She was such a wonderful person - so smart and so animated and so dedicated to her community. I was lucky to have known her!

Clever (and outstanding) obit!

Although I did not know DL I felt I had known her for years after reading her self-penned obituary. I felt like I was reading a novel eager to get to the next paragraph. I will say that I have often thought about writing my own, but I know I can´t compete with hers. I will say this, she will be in Heaven writing the daily news. My condolences to her family and friends. I wish I had known this remarkable lady. SAS.
