Dolores "Cappy" Isabella Capraro Lestarchick, 91, of Pompton Plains, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at her home.
Born in Plainfield, Cappy spent her early years in South Plainfield before becoming a longtime resident of Scotch Plains. She was a proud graduate of Scotch Plains High School's Class of 1949 before pursuing her passion of fashion design at the McDowel School of Design in New York City. She used her skills at a design house in New York City before working for Joe Lynn's Bridal salon in Westfield. Later, Cappy was a top seller in her Avon territory and opened a tanning salon in Scotch Plains.
Cappy loved her town of Scotch Plains and volunteered in the planning of Scotch Plains’ celebration of the national bicentennial, as well as the town’s tricentennial celebration. She was a founding member of the committees which started the UNICO/St. Bartholomew Italian Feast and the summer evening gatherings by the gazebo downtown. She loved her soap operas and kept up with all the current events, with opinions on everything that was going on in the world. She used her bridal design skills throughout her life by helping family and friends with their bridal dresses, and making special outfits for her grandchildren.
Surviving are four children; Lori Jacobsen (Richard), Frank Lestarchick, III, Wendy Pirozzi (Thomas), and John J. Lestarchick (Allison); nine grandchildren, Richard Jacobsen, Jr. (Tara), Kathleen Quinn (Ryan), Elizabeth Byszewski (James), Kyle Jacobsen (Tersey), Frank Lestarchick IV, Lauren Becker (Dana), Thomas Pirozzi (Dana), Jane Bowman (Tyler) and Raymond Lestarchick; and nine great grandchildren, whom she loved to celebrate all the holidays with around her dining room table on Cook Avenue.
Cappy was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Frank Lestarchick, Jr., her parents, John and Edvige, as well as her beloved sister, Patricia Capraro Bochnak.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains on Jan. 4, 2023 at 11:00.
In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Scotch Plains Fire Dept. at https://scotchplainsfire.org/donate.
