I knew Don for twenty years. I can say he was the most unusual guy I have ever known. Every time I saw him he was always up & friendly.
He got a big kick when I told him he could pass for 20 years younger than his real age. I hadn't seen him in the last couple of years but I will always remember him.

Dear Cate Family. Just a note to tell you how sorry I was to hear about Don. We loved all the Cate boys when we were growing up in Loleta. May God Bless you at this time of sorrow. Peggy (Brown) Colina

Dear Cate family, we are so sad to see that Don has passed away. He was our friend and neighbor for many years in the gulch. We had such fun times with him. He was quite a character. I was so glad when he called me recently, as he and I always tried to stay in touch. We will all miss him very much.

I am very sad to hear of Don's passing. I was one of his best friends for over 35 years. We shared a great friendship. Summer vacations at Trinity Lake were some of my best memories. Don was an extremely likable guy and was always willing to help someone in need. I have been away from Eureka for 27 years now. Moving away made it more difficult to keep in touch but we managed. I will never forget him. I asked Don to come and live in San Diego but he preferred to stay with his family. ...

Dear Bruce, Marvin, Nanci and famlies,
I enjoyed getting reaquainted with Don when he came to the monthly reunions. Have a pretty good picture of him and I will try to find it for you. It is so hard to face the death of a loved one. I like the Hospice analogy of leaving on a ship, but after we can no longer see the ship, others are waiting cheerfully when the ship gets to port. Love, Muriel Pedrotti Shultz
