Don Peoples Obituary

NEW ALBANY - Peoples, Don E., 89, of New Albany, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at his residence.

Don was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired safety and ammunitions inspector for the federal government at the ICI Ammunitions Plant in Charlestown, IN. Don was a Kentucky Colonel, an elder at Eastside Christian Church in Jeffersonville, and a former member of Calvary Christian Church in Sellersburg.

Don was born on February 8, 1922 in Pemberville, OH to the late Vere B. and Maude (Burkett) Peoples. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Jean L. (Murray) Peoples; great-granddaughter, Jyllian; and sister, Doris.

He is survived by his children, Laurel L. Gariepy (David) of Warner Robins, GA and Timothy E. Peoples (Julie) of New Albany; grandchildren, Stephen Gariepy, Sarah Quick, Stacy Allen, Erica Malloch; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 and 9-11 a.m. Monday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home, with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
