Donnie Shaw
Don Richard "Donnie" Shaw, 45, of Fairmont went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 16, 2011 at his home following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Fairmont on August 9, 1966, the only child of Charles R. and Bonnie J. (Ramsey) Shaw of Fairmont.
Donnie was employed at Iscar Metals in WV and Pennsylvania as a sales consultant for 13 years. He had also worked at North Pole Ice, Safe Security Systems and Applied Industrial Technologies in his earlier years. He was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School Class of 1984 and of Fairmont State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church, the AMA Model Airplane Club, Fairmont R/C Flyers Club and of Theta Xi Alumni Association.
His interests included hunting, flying models airplanes and watching WVU football and basketball games. He was an avid car enthusiast, and dirt track racing fan, working as a crew chief for 6 years at Interstate Speedway Dirt Track. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially his daughter Abby.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Cathy (Greco) Shaw of Fairmont, and his daughter Abigail Nicole at home.
Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Patricia Greco of Fairmont, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Celeste and Ed Porturica, Anna and Chris McKenzie, Patty and Kim Wade, Mary and Dave Haymond, Roseanna Greco, Rick and Christa Greco and Judi Greco, Brian Smith, as well as several other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an aunt, Patricia Edgell, his maternal grandparents, Bruce and Dora (Taylor) Ramsey, his paternal grandparents, Harry L. and Mary E. (Cramer) Shaw and his father-in-law Albert Greco.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Cowden, Mike McCleary, Mike Kuhn, Gary Yough, Jeff Edgell and Scott House.
Family and friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Sunday 5-8 pm and on Monday from 1-8 pm. A Vigil Service will be held at 5pm on Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 329 Maryland Avenue in Fairmont on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 11 am with Fr. Richard Ulam O.S.B as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care and the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and its employees for all of their excellent care and compassion for Donnie throughout his illness. Donnie's family would also like to thank the staff and parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Church for their prayers, love and concern during his illness.
