Auburn-Dr. Donald C. Abbey, 85, of 22 Rockland Road Court, a World War II veteran and retired dentist, died Thursday, February 24th, at home.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Margaret Cary (Hatcher) Abbey; two sons, Scott H. Abbey of Scottsdale, AZ, Lee E. Abbey of Danville, VT; his daughter, Lynn C. Abbey of Fall River, MA and a granddaughter, Erica L. Abbey of Merrimac, MA.

Dr. Abbey was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Tufts University School of Dentistry, Boston. He spent five years as a dentist in the US Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Naval Reserve until 1959.

Dr. Abbey was a dentist for 50 years in Webster Square, Worcester. He was a member of the Worcester Dental Society and the Massachusetts Dental Society. He was a former member and past president of the Rotary Club of Auburn and was award a Paul Harris Fellow in 1994. He was elected to the Auburn School Committee in 1952 and served there for 5 terms. He then served on the development board of the Bay Pay Regional Vocational School in Charlton and subsequently spent 10 years as the Auburn representative to their school committee.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, February 27th from 2-5 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Burial and funeral plans are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA 01501.

Dear Mrs. Abbey, Scott, Lee, and Lyn

It is with the deepest sympathy that I write to you and share my feelings for your husband and father Dr. Abbey.
Dr. Abbey gave me my first job at 13. I cut his lawn. I always brought my dog KIWI to help. She mostly hung out with Mrs. Abbey.
