O'Brien Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services - South Hadley Obituary

Donald “Don” Adkins died peacefully at home on Saturday April 15, 2023 after a courageous battle with respiratory disease. He was 72 years old. He was born and raised in LaFollette, TN and relocated to Massachusetts at the age of 15. He was the son of the late Dolly Sellers, and Jonah Adkins. He was one of twelve children and was the baby of the boys. He retired from PTI, Inc. after 24 years of employment. Don was a quiet and reserved man who loved his family. Don loved hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time in his backyard with his wife, children and grandchildren who will deeply miss him. An avid beehive collector, Don proudly displayed his hives throughout his house. Don was a friend of Bill’s for 18 years. He raised his 5 children as a single parent until he met his wife, Jill. They married in 1994 and brought their 2 families together. He leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Jill Adkins (Raybuck), his 5 children Steven, Paul, Jeremiah, Jennifer, and Christopher; a step-son Ammon; and his 6 grandchildren Tyler, Kaios, Piper, Ivy, Amelia, and Julia. He is survived by his 3 siblings Brinda Adkins, Cornedius and JD Adkins. He was predeceased by his 8 siblings Verlin, Leedy, Mae, Marie, Nancy, Geneva, Ronald, and Judy. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 21, for a period of visitation for Don from 4-5:30 p.m. at O’Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley, MA, followed by a service in the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. Don’s burial will be private at a later date. Jill and family. You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Don for MANY years. What a great guy! My condolences to Jill and his family. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Don for a few years and he was the most sweetest guy with the best personality. His laugh was the best. He was very laid back and just looked forward to the end of the day when he could go home to be with his wife (Jill). I'm so sorry for your loss. Heaven gained another Great Angel, may he rest in peace.

So sorry Jill. Let your family and friends love you.

So sorry, Jill, God bless you and your family.
