Groton - Donald C. Arthur, 87, of 94 Brooks Haven Road, Groton, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2007, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born in Northampton, Mass., on Sept. 3, 1920, the son of Charles and Alice (Robbins) Arthur.
Donald married Mary Siconolfi on July 3, 1948, in Northampton.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was the manager of corporate policies and procedures for Research Cottrell in New York City, retiring in 1985.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Shennecossett Golf Club for over 30 years and was the past president of the men's club. He also was a prolific editorial writer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald C. Arthur Jr. of Washington, D.C., and a daughter, Karen Lowther of Pawcatuck. He has three grandchildren, Lindsey and Dawn Arthur and Rose Francisco, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Edward Arthur and a sister, Mary Savoie.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
