Donald Linley "Doc" Beckett, DVM, 83, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 8:57 PM, Friday, September 30th, 2016 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Don was born in Lawrenceburg, IN on August 6, 1933, a son of the late Irene (Schnebelt) and Linley A. Beckett. He was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, Class of 1951. He attended Purdue University for two years of pre veterinary classes and then went on to graduate from Ohio State University in 1957 with his DVM degree. Doc first practiced for two years in Orrville, OH. He then came to Rising Sun where he caringly served the community for the next 54 years. Doc was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. He was also a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners and a former Rotary Club member. Doc will be remembered for his kind and caring nature, his sense of humor, those blue eyes and his years of dedication to the people and their animals of Ohio County and surrounding communities. Don is survived by his loving wife Anna Mae (Willhoite) Beckett of Rising Sun, IN; by four sons, Donald Beckett, Jr., of Denver, CO, Dave Beckett (Becky) of Anchorage, AK, Mike Beckett (Amy) of Rising Sun, IN and Cody Beckett (Mikayla) of Patriot, IN; by a step daughter, Kim Hon, of Florence, IN; by three step sons, Tim Hon, Barry Hon (Lorrie) and Dan Hon (Jennifer) all of Florence, IN; by two sisters, Cora Belle Blackburn, of Greendale, IN and Dorothy McCool, of Greendale, IN; by a brother, Tom Beckett (Susie) of Wausau, WI; by grandsons Andrew and Jared Beckett and by several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother John Beckett and by his former wife Sue (Mattox) Beckett. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, October 5th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Ron Tiller and Rev. Greg Ison officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Donald Beckett Scholarship Fund in care of the Ohio County Community Foundation (checks payable to OCCF). So sorry to hear of Doc's passing. He was one of my best friends.

I am sorry to hear of Donald passing. He was my vet for years. Will never forget him. He came to my home to to take care of my Black Lab dogs. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Dr Don's passing. He gave me my first real job,letting me work after school. I learned a lot from Doc and went on to work in the medical field for quite a few years. I have fond memories of him and Dr Tom.

A kind caring man. He cared for our little Maggie until he retired. I missed him afterwards. May he Rest with Our Lord forever. I send prayers to the family at this time of your loss.

I've known Don grandson many years, he was also a vet to my dog Harley D. A good man, father, vet to som many animals.

So sorry to hear of Dr Don's passing,my prayers are with you during this sad time. I really enjoyed working with Dr Don as a teen. I learned so much and went on to work in the medical field for several years.

With Dr. Beckett's passing the veterinary profession and the community lost "a good one". Condolences and comfort to his family and friends.
