Donald Ray Burress, 79, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 11:47 PM, Wednesday, March 1st, 2017 at his residence. Don was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 5, 1937, a son of the late Margie Evelyn (Smith) and James Garfield Burress. He was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, Class of 1955. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. While in service he was awarded Sharpshooter (Rifle), Sharpshooter (Carbine) and Good Conduct Medal. Don was a residential and commercial real estate agent for forty two years. He was past president and served on the board of directors for the S.E. Indiana Board of Realtors. Don was part of the group that developed MLS (Multiple Listing Service). He also formerly worked at Seagram's Distillery and was owner operator of the Cowboy General Store in Lawrenceburg. Don was a member of the Lawrenceburg Masonic Lodge, the NRA, Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association and a life member of the Single Action Shooters Society. Don also attended the Rising Sun First Baptist Church. On May 30, 1992 he married Kay (Murray) Burress at the Greendale Baptist Church. Don and Kay were married nearly twenty five love filled years.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife Kay Burress of Rising Sun, IN; by a daughter, Denise Renee Ammons (Tracy), of Bright, IN; by a son, Brandon "Dusty" Burress (Joy), of Bright, IN; by step daughter, Sonya Salisbury (Steve), of Grafton, MA; by two step sons Steve Kapetanakis (Ana), of Westford, MA and Greg Kapetanakis (Marie Byrd) of Moores Hill, IN; by 14 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Graeme, Gabbey, Gretchen, Grace, Gwynn, Matthew, Tim, Andrew, Ashlyn, Courtney, Jace, Olivia & Abby and by one great grandchild, Omiah; by a sister, Carol Jean Daugherty (Bill), of Texas; by brother-in-law Donald Siekman of Rising Sun, IN and sister-in-law, Joy Ames of Jenson Beach, FL.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Monday, March 6th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, In with Brother Greg Matthew and Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
