Age 81
Donald “Shotgun” W. Cannon, age 81 died Monday, June 12, 2017, at his home. Born July 21, 1935 he was the son of the late R.C. Cannon and wife Essie Burgess Cannon. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and Atlanta Braves baseball. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter Tina Brille, a step-son, Donny Spurlin, and one sister, Mavis Jones.
Donald is survived by his wife of 31 years Betty Cannon, three daughters; Lisa Smart and husband Dennis of Ellenboro, Donna Flynn and husband Mike of Cliffside, and Rita Smith of Carollen. Two step-daughters; Robin Thomas and husband Bo of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Sue Garrett of Shelby as well as four step-sons; Russel Spurlin, Scott Spurlin and wife Angela, Steve Spurlin and wife Trudy all of Shelby and Chris Spurlin of North Myrtle Beach, SC. One sister, Nadina Scruggs and one brother Grady Cannon and wife Bonnie all of Forest City and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
