Donald "Don" Carten

Along with Steve and so many others, Mr. Carten brought us to Flemington to teach us target shooting. He would use his own time and money to do this and then take us to McDonalds afterwards. I still have all of the certificates and medals for marksmanship that he helped me to achieve. It was great fun and a terrific learning experience for all of us. Don is well remembered by former members of Troop 62 in Flemington from the 1970's for rifle instruction and being a merit badge counselor. We learned a lot from Don both in skill and safety. God's Speed sir.

Mr. Carten ran a Jr. NRA program that I was part of in the late 70s. Every Wednesday night he'd pick up a van full of high school age boys after he got out of work and took us to a shooting range in Flemington. He mentored us in using .22 caliber rifles, instructing first time shooters as well as intermediate level shooters, as well as teaching us a good understanding of proper gun safety.
