Whitson Funeral Home - Cookeville Chapel Obituary

Funeral Services with Full Military Honors for Donald Howard Cowan age 70, of Cookeville will be held on Tuesday June 30, 2020 at 11:00am from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Pastor Ted Kocher at Life Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at West Cemetery(South).


The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and on Tuesday from 8:00am until time of services at 11:00am.


Donald Howard Cowan was born on December 5, 1949 in Detroit Michigan to the late Willie “Bud” Cowan and Jeweldean “Judy” Bowman Hutchison.


Donald spent his career in the Military, both in the Navy and Marines. While in the Military, He served in Vietnam, was a search and rescue swimmer and instructor, was a helicopter mechanic and spent time on many aircraft carriers. Donald was very proud of his military service. Donald was also a Christian and attended Life Church of Cookeville. He was a loving Father, grandfather, brother uncle and friend.


His family includes;

1 Son and Daughter in-law: Donald Bradley Cowan and Christen Valynn Cowan of Texas


1 Daughter and son in-law: Crystal Eve O’Brien and Mike O’Brien of Florida


1 Sister: Barbara Robbins of Cookeville


3 Grandchildren: Brody Cowan, Beau Cowan and Brayden O’Brien


Niece and Nephew: Rachel and Whit Addicks, Jason and Caitlin Robbins


Special Partner: Brenda Bussell of Cookeville


In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Putnam County Military Honor Guard,(In Care of 30 North Dixie Avenue Cookeville, TN 38501) or the Tennessee Heart Association.

We were distant cousins and used to play together when we were around 10 or 12 years old in Cookeville. My parents mover to Florida and we lost contact. I myself spent quite a few years in the Marine Corps. I spent 3 tours in Viet Nam flying. Wish I had known you were in Nam would have looked you up. So sorry to hear of the passing, my prayers are out to you and your family. Your watch is over RIP brother. Semper Fi.
