Lorne and Sons Funeral Home - Delray Beach Obituary

Donald (Donnie) J. DeAngelus, 82, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2022, surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Donald was born on March 9th, 1940, in Schenectady, New York, the son of the late Dominick & Edith (Matarazzo) DeAngelus. Donald was predeceased by his brother Ronald P. DeAngelus. Donald graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, Siena College, and Albany Law School with high honors. Donald was a deeply religious man and a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had an infectious laugh that will always be remembered. His heart would be full whenever he had “Sunday Dinner” with family and friends, attended his grandchildren’s sporting events, played “pitch” with the family, made Palm Sunday crosses, or hosted his annual Easter Pie Party.

Donald was an attorney and together, with his brother, Ronald, they founded the law firm DeAngelus & DeAngelus. They were partners for over fifty years. Donald was a member of the New York State Bar Association, Schenectady County Bar Association, and Trial Lawyers Association. For many years, he was the Rotterdam Town Attorney and Schenectady County Deputy Attorney. Donald was also the Rotterdam Democrat Party Chairman. His favorite membership was in the Idaka Forum, celebrating his strong Italian heritage. One of his proudest personal moments was driving Robert Kennedy around Schenectady in 1964 for his Presidential campaign. Donald also had a love of horse racing. He was honored by being given the title of Kentucky Colonel in 1974.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Marlene (Viscusi) DeAngelus, children, Maria Buicko, Donald DeAngelus II, Sheryl (John) Clark, and grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Lopez, Joseph (Kerry) Buicko, Ryan (Alex Holzman) Buicko & Madison (Alex) Clark, great-grandchildren, Luke & Lola Lopez, John & Beau Buicko, and Colson Clark. Donald is also survived by sisters-in-law Arlene DeAngelus, Linda (Mike) Adams, Rosaria (Michael, deceased) Viscusi, brother-in-law Joseph (Marcia) Viscusi, son-in-law David Buicko, Uncles Joseph Matarazzo and Sal (Carol ) Matarazzo and several nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom he loved immensely.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S. Military Trial, Delray Beach, Florida, 33484. Burial will be at a later date in Schenectady, New York.

In lieu of flowers, Donald’s family respectfully asks that donations be made in his name to Emmanuel Catholic Church, 15700 S. Military Trial, Delray Beach, Florida, 33484.

Not sure what to say?

My heart took a serious hit as I just learned about Don's passing many months after the fact. His generosity, humor and spirit was bigger than life itself.

Always looked forward to seeing Donnie at the Rosary Our Lady of the Assumption church. Always thought of Donnie with laughter after I moved out of NY. So sorry we never ended up connecting in Boca Raton like we planned. —-Marlene Skowronek

Sorry to learn of Donnie’s passing. He was a joy to work with and against and I always enjoyed his presence. May his memory be a blessing

Dear Marlene and Family,

We were so sorry to hear about Donnie's passing. We have such fond memories. The Newport and Vermont trips with the Greco's, and Donnie 's delicious sandwiches .
Also, the gatherings at your Rotterdam home with Marlene's delicious pizza! ( which Tony still misses).
We truly miss seeing you. Our best to you all.
Much love to Marlene and your wonderful family.
Love Tony and Shirley
