It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Lee DeMerritt announces his passing on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Don was born in Gilroy, California to George Watson DeMerritt and Ida Lorene DeMerritt. He was the youngest of three children and was raised in Gilroy, California. Don was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida, his brother George, and sister Bette.
Don married his beautiful wife Judy on July 28th, 1957 . They have been happily married for 67 years.
Don is survived and will be remembered by loving wife Judy, his daughters Deborah Myers, Jody Swift,his son David DeMerritt, his grandchildren David Dover (Rae-Marie), Amanda Dover (Christopher), Mitchell Wright (Kari), Grace Swift, Deanna DeMerritt, and great grandchildren Skylar Dover and Myles Wright.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a caring friend. Don proudly served his country and community in the United States Army National Guard as a member of 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 149th Armored Regiment. Don was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class in 1959.
Don had a successful career of 30+ years as an Electrician and retired from the I.B.E.W. Local 332, San Jose Ca.
The DeMerritt family was blessed with Don’s long and fruitful life and will be forever grateful for love he provided to his family and friends.
A service will be held on August 22nd 2024, at Habing Family Funeral Home at 5 p.m.
