Not sure what to say?

I am saddened to have recently learned of Don's passing. Don and I were roommates in 1968-69 when I was a grad student at UCSB and Don was an undergraduate. We had a nice apartment in Isla Vista for which we paid a whopping $115 a month. We were introduced by a mutual friend who was a classmate of mine at UC Irvine. I contacted Don, and we agreed to share an apartment. i968 and 1969 were obviously very interesting years, and Don and I shared some great memories. I got drafted in May,...

Don is an extraordinary guy. I had the privilege of collaborating and working for his team for 13 years at Lucia Mar. He possessed a gentle and contemplative nature, holding the position of a highly respected and awe-inspiring individual. Don was a man of remarkable fortitude, yet exhibited the heart of a poet. It is beyond measure the countless number of occasions I witnessed him diligently toiling away at student services long after the official workday had ended, often finding him...

My work with teens in the juvenile justice system gave me access to Don. He approached his task with unparalleled integrity, skill, and civility. He set a high bar for one of the most demanding positions in public education. He is missed.

Will miss reminiscing about all the good times spent building floats and all the things Mardi Gras. Don was a true mensch!

Don was a true educator and leader. His caring for students rang true from our first meeting

Don was a very good man who was a gentleman and had a smile and kind greeting for me always. I worked with him over the years when I was with Lucia Mar and then the SAFE program. The team of Don, Linda Hogoboom, and Marilyn Dwight was fantastic as they all are amazingly smart, wise, and kind. I am honored to have known Don.

Don was the best. Student Services was lucky to have him for as long as we did. He was one of a kind.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I am so glad I got to meet Don when our children got married.

A good man, a good friend, and a good mentor.
