Not sure what to say?

Dearest Penny,
I had not heard about Don's death. I am so very sorry for you and the kids. I have nothing but the fondest of memories of him and will ALWAYS be happy I got to know Don. He was such a nice guy, had a genuine smile and laugh, and was generous beyond measure...a true gentleman! May he rest in peace and may God bless you.
With much love,
DiAnne and Don Hakala

I happened to find this obituary page. I am Takashi INAMURA in Japan. I met the Dillard family at St. Paul International Lutheran Church in Tokyo, where Don and Ashli got baptized ( by Pastor W.) It was in 1980 and I was a high school student then. The video at 1:19 shows the sanctuary of the church. I am now 57 years old and the longest member and the only remaining person that knows the days from the early 1980. Mrs. Dillard and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. From...

The most caring, loving, kind person I've ever known. Don always put everyone before himself and love so unconditionally. You will be missed by all that loved you, thanks for being a part of my life and may you play that big game of golf forever.

I met Don as a new engineer at the Exxon refinery in Baton Rouge in 1970. We became fast friends and golf buddies. Although our paths took different routes after 1980, we remained friends and occasionally were able to meet with our Baton Rouge friends for golf outings. We both came to the Lord late in life but this allows us to celebrate Don being with the savior and free from the difficult circumstances of the past couple years. I am sure you are enjoying the Lord saying “well done my...

My prayers to my Uncle Donald's family

I moved to Baton Rouge to begin a new job in 1971 with no friends or even acquaintances. Day one I met Don and his family by the pool - problem solved. Fifty years later we remain trusted friends, and I miss our golf, his intellect and his sense of humor. I will even miss his 32” waist.

My mother at age 89 said the toughest thing about growing old is burying your friends. She was right. Penny, Kellye and family, our prayer is the eternally true promises of our Lord and Savior and...

I have so many memories of my sweet brother Donald. He always had a smile and quick wit. We will miss him terribly, but know that he is in heaven today reunited with Dad, Mom, bothers and sisters. Also completely healed and I hope he has made connections with our sweet daughter, Tamara.

Uncle Donald was a wonderful storyteller. He will be missed by many. Prayers for the family.

Uncle Donald is a fun and happy person who would play with Barbie and Faith when we were small and I was proud to be his niece. We talked about many things including college and how he wrote his PhD. He valued education and is one of the first examples this writer had of how educated people are able to work and enjoy their occupation. We love our Uncle and it is difficult to accept he has left us and gone to heaven. I will see him there and we will have more fun just visiting because he...
