Doran, Donald J. "Don" Ypsilanti, MI and Curtis, MI Age 68, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at home following a brief illness. He was born July 5, 1947 in Newberry, MI, the son of Edgar J. and Venola L. (Bowler) Doran. He was a 1967 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On March 14, 1992, he married Patricia "Pat" Shipley and she survives. Don was employed by Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti plant for 35 years, retiring in 2005. In September 1984, Don became the owner of Doran's King Koin Laundromat of Curtis, MI. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #849 active and retired, the Loyal Order of Moose #782, The American Legion Post 74 of Newberry, MI and was a lifelong member of the AmVets. In addition to his loving wife of 24 years, survivors include: his mother-in-law Mary Shipley; brothers-in-law Paul (Deb), John, Joe and Donald (Toni) Shipley; sister-in-law Susan Shipley; aunts and uncles, Ruth (Bob) Sites, Bob (Mary) Bowler, Duane (Kathy) Bowler, Geraldine Labron, Inez Manville, Omer (Helga) Doran and Lavina (Lefty) Mattson; a host of cousins including the Petosky "clan" and his float builders Chris and Loran Symonds and their children and Bob and Tara Bowler and their children; and his beloved dog Murphy. Special thanks to Don's caregivers who made it possible for Don to be at home, Joe Shipley and Bill Petosky. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 11 am Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Stark Funeral Service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Germfask Perpetual Care Fund for Riverside Cemetery. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the memorial gathering will be 4-8 pm Tuesday, March 15. There will also be a memorial service 2 pm Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Germfask Community Building, Germfask, MI. Please sign his guest book at www.starkfuneral.com.

Being a neighbor of Don for 27 years, I have had many conversations with him over these years. He kidded me that I was the "rich Republican businessman" even though he knew the rich part was not true.
We mainly talked presidential politics and the status of the local economy. What I enjoyed about our talks is that they were real conversations: it was back and forth, and we agreed on a lot. Don always maintained a good smile even though he shook his head a lot. I always looked forward...

Pat,I am so sorry to hear about Don but happy I got to see him one last time very recently at LA Georges.Don was so very kind throughout all the years at Fords,always a smile always!I loved hearing Don talk about his 4 legged friends. Murphy lost the best loving Dad a furry child could have as well as us knowing him and you , your husband. I will forever remember him. My heart goes out to you, Marcy & Tim Wafer
