Don, I will miss you always, and cherish your generous heart, compassionate wisdom, masterful wit, and 25 years of friendship that was and will remain one of the greatest gifts of my life. And, I know that mine is just one among the thousands of lives you have deeply touched and whose hearts are dimmed by your passing. Indeed, you were a quiet legend, never asking anything for yourself, never tiring in your efforts on behalf of those you loved and supported, whether Congressmen, Senators or...

Don Dowd is a legend in Massachussets politics....and we are the better for it. His happiness was evident in every day of his life. He gave of himself and he loved doing it. Here is a man who was loyal, committed, fun-loving and dedicated to his friends. Don was a wonderful friend to me as a young woman arriving in Boston to start her career. I remember him as a mentor, a friend, and someone who cared passionately about the people who had less than he. Let's all remember Don on the...

Don was a friend to all and an inspiration to the many who knew him from politics. Every moment with him was a joy to behold and a memory to cherish.

I have many memories of Don at campaign events and other places always with a smile, a good word and even better story. That was true even the last time I saw him at the Kennedy Library this summer when he was there for his good friend Ted Kennedy as he lay in repose.

You are a good man Don Dowd and will be missed dearly.

I first met Don while working as a reporter for the former Holyoke Transcript-Telegram and we reconnected while riding the Peter Pan bus into Boston some years later. When Sen. Ted Kennedy last came to Holyoke a few years back, Don arranged for my wife, Angela, to have her photo taken with the senator. To say that Don was a true gentleman is a major understatement. Please accept our sincere condolences.

My sincere condolences to all who have known Don and feel the pain of his passing. As a young kid out of college working on a campaign in 1996, Don took an interst in me and gave me adivce, friendship and support every step of the way. I have never forgotten his kindness and the impact he had on my own career and personal confidence. Dave Bartley once quoted Kipling while speaking of Maurice Donahue, the same is true of Mr. Dowd, "If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk...
