TRAVERSE CITY — Donald Frederick Eggli, devoted husband and father, passed away suddenly with his family at his side on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Munson Medical Center.

Born in Traverse City to Margaret (Ward) and Carl Eggli on Nov. 10, 1932, he was the middle child of three siblings.

Don graduated from Traverse City Senior High in 1950 and married his life-long sweetheart, Claryce (Dekker) Eggli in 1953. They celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year.

Don spent most of his career in the employment of Burwood Industries. He started in an entry-level position in 1960 and retired in 1990 as general manager and part owner of the company.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Don won many awards for his marksmanship and was a life member of the NRA. Other organizations Don participated in were the Elk Rapids Sportsman's Club, Masonic Temple and the Elks Club, where he was a current member.

Above all, Don enjoyed being with his family. Some of his happiest times were spent visiting with his sons and their families, especially at the cottage where there was plenty of fishing and boating. As a proud grandpa, he also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's hockey games, recitals and plays.

Survivors include his wife, Claryce Eggli; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Eggli (Sandy Irish), David Eggli (Charlene Travis) and Steven Eggli (Kim Cunningham). He is also survived by a number of grandchildren, Kristin, Richard, Jessica, James, Scott and Brendan. Surviving siblings include Helen (Eggli) and Hank Maurer, and Emily (Eggli) and Clyde Lotter.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one's choice in Don's honor.

A memorial service will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will precede the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home; www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.

Claryce and family
I am sorry to hear of Don's passing. I worked for Don at Burwoods for many years and enjoyed his quick sense of humor. Those were good days that I will always remember. I wish you and your family well in the days ahead.

Aunt Claryce
I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Don. Always know that we are here for you and we look forward to seeing you this summer when we visit Michigan. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Aunt Claryce,
I am so glad that we had some time to spend together last Saturday. Your boys have grown in to nice young men and you must be so proud! Uncle Don will be missed! I know he will never leave your thoughts and your heart! We may have lost touch over the past few years but we still have all of the memories of the times we spent together when I was growig up - the times I stayed with you and Uncle Don before you had your boys - or when you so graciously helped my boys clean...

Claryce and sons....we are grieving with you and remembering all the wonderful experiences we had together. Todd related several of them about the time we lived in TC and your three and my three sons would get together. It was a wonderful time of our lives and those memories came back today as I set and listened at the memorial. God Bless you all and hopefully we can stay in touch. Love you. Nancy

Mark & Sandy, Richard and I wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to you and your family in the loss of your Dad, Don. Deanna & Richard Lile

Claryce and Family: My father worked with Don's dad at Bell and I had the pleasure of working for Don at Burwood. It was a highlight in my life. Our condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time. Pete and Nancy Peterson

Bonnie and I were so upset to hear of the passing of Don. We had such wonderful time with you both in Alaska. I am so glad I was able to share my photos with you at the Elks a couple weeks ago and I hope you will always have wonderful memories of that trip. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
