Dr. Elwell was my 11th grade American History AP teacher at Spring Valley High School. His dedication and humor and obvious love for what he was doing made a huge impact on me and he always ranked as one of my favorite teachers. We had a running gag about Thomas A. My thoughts and prayers are with you all! Don was a great friend and classmate. We had some wonderful times playing music together. When we were freshmen and new to the Benhi Band, Prof. Slater asked Don and I to perform a duet called :"The Two Old Maids"-for baritone and tuba. We practiced it until we had it down and we were a bit nervous the night of the concert, but when we stood up to play, they put big old bonnets on our heads and the audience roared!
