Donald C. Ford was born in South Danbury, NH on July 25th, 1929 the oldest son of Clarence E. and Vera (Jenness) Ford and died on Saturday, March 2, 2024 in Concord, NH.
Donald attended South Danbury Elementary School and graduated from the eighth grade there. He was a 1948 graduate of Canaan High School.
On June 3rd, 1950 Donald married Ruth Brown of New Hampton and they resided in Danbury throughout their over 72 years of marriage.
Donald worked for Hazen Lumber of Grafton from 1948 to 1952 as a truck driver. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 during the Korean War and earned an honorable discharge, then served six years proudly in the Marine Reserves.
Donald owned and operated Donald C. Ford Trucking from 1954 until 2018. He built many local development roads, along with Town and State Highway projects throughout New Hampshire. He also specialized in home foundations, septic systems and drainage systems. Donald was truly happy operating Heavy Equipment or driving his trucks every day. He plowed snow for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation as a contractor for 43 years along with the Town of Danbury.
He was a resident of Danbury his whole life, served on the Planning Board and Danbury Volunteer Fire Department. In 1989 he and Ruth built their dream home “up on the Hill”.
He prided himself on his high work ethics, vegetable gardens, watching sports and his real passion of cutting firewood to relax.
Donald is survived by a brother, Merle Ford of Enfield, NH. Two sisters, Pauline Gage of West Lebanon, NH and Marion Paight of Marlborough, NH.
He is also survived by his three sons, Raymond D. Ford of Newport, NH, Dennis C. and wife Lucy (Brown) Ford of Alexandria, NH along with Gary A. Ford of Concord, NH.
Donald was predeceased by his wife of over 72 years, Ruth B. Ford.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Danbury Community Center, High Street in Danbury, NH on March 16, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. A private burial service for family will be held at Riverside Cemetery, North Road, Danbury in the spring.
