Donald K. Freeborn Ph.D.

Although we lived and worked separated by a continent, Don became a valued personal and professional friend. We took advantage of every opportunity to get together during professional and personal travel and shared research efforts in spite of geographic separation. These meetings and their anticipation meant a great deal to me.

Don was a wonderful mentor to me and a generous man gifting me and many others with his great knowledge, wisdom. and kindness. He was respected and loved by all at CHR. I was a lucky man to have shared time with him. And I am a better person for have knowing him.

So sorry for your loss. What an accomplished man. I knew of him through yearbook pictures from Lynchburg College with my mom. I hope this makes you smile.

Don will always be remembered as a wonderful, generous grandfather to Mila and Paul. After Keith died, he became a very good friend of mine, as we shared in the grief of losing Nana, and Keith so suddenly. We enjoyed going on drives to the Helvetia area. Don said over and over again, how it reminded him of the hills and valleys in Virginia. We will miss him terribly!!

I worked with Don on a project years ago and during that time I was struck by his kind, professional and generous nature. I have always held him in the highest esteem and send my condolences to the family.
