Not sure what to say?

How fortunate I was back in September, 1957 when I enrolled as a freshman student at De Paul Academy. Not only was I a novice Latin I student, but this was the start of my 4-year Latin career under the tutelage of Mr. Donald Hoffman. This was his first year as a Latin teacher. He became a mentor and lifetime friend. I would visit him regularly even after retiring to Arizona. I will always remember the many times we shared dinner at the Edelweiss Restaurant, his favorite German haunt. The...

Ave, Doc. There is no farewell.

Mr. Hoffman was one of the finest Lay Teachers at DePaul Academy - We in the class of 1961 had him for a teacher in different subjects. Talked about this at our luncheon today 4/18/24 - God Rest his Soul. A lot of very good things were said about Mr. Hoffman today.

Doctor Hoffman was my freshman year Latin teacher a little over a decade ago. I still talk about him and his lessons to this day, especially the "How To Be A Roman Legionnaire" videotape. My favorite, though, was at the very beginning of the year, every year, you could hear him from down the ground floor hallway, leading his entire class drilling first declension nouns with growing enthusiasm until everyone was shouting! I think the drills always deteriorated into everyone giggling. What a...

Condolences to your family .

Mr. Hoffman was my guest at our DePaul Academy 1963 class reunion several years ago. I was a Latin student each of my four years at the Academy: the last three of which were taught by Mr. Hoffman. His commitment to De Paul and his students was reflective of his strong sense of scholarship which he later continued at Saint Ignatius College Prep.

Viam Sapientiae Monstrabo Tibi.

My first 2 1/2 years of teaching and coaching were at DePaul Academy with Donald Hoffman. Don was respected by his students and especially by his fellow faculty members. He was a friend to all of us and especially to the new teachers. Condolences to his family and know that we will remember him at Mass during this Easter week.

Mr. Hoffman had a great sense of humor and really cared about his students. He appeared very strict, but was kind and compassionate. He provided many college recommendations and helped so many.
