Not sure what to say?

Donald was my Modern Algebra teacher at Columbia around 1971. He fostered in me a great love for mathematics (my major). I'm sorry but I just saw his obituary while I was searching for my past teachers. My profound condolences.

Just missed the chance to share with you my recent revelation that the
"al jebr", a love we shared, has the literal arabic meaning of "reunion of broken parts". It was also the word used to describe the "bone setters" of the day. Today we call them chiropractors.

So. Yesterday while walking around the Slope, I found a 1963 printing of Norman Kemp Smith's translation of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, in outstanding condition. The thing that makes this a story is that there is a name of the guy who owned it inside. So I did some digging and found him, and found this page.

I know this place is for friends and relatives, and I know that I can never share the experience that you are all going through right now. But I can sympathize.

Miss you.
