I first met Don in May of 1989 when I opened my business in a building adjacent to his store in Providence. Over the next 25 plus years we developed a friendly relationship and I appreciated and learned from Don's commitment to his business, he rarely missed a day. We had many lively conversations about many, many subjects. Don knew something about everything and was not shy about sharing his thoughts. One time when Don was visiting me in my shop he noticed a large 1950's era map that I had hung on the wall and his eyes lit up and he began to tell about his WWII experiences and traced with his finger on the map the places where his unit had marched and where battles had been fought. I saw a different side of Don that day and had a glimpse of the young man he once was. I will miss him. My condolences to Jack and Don Jr and the extended family.
Thank You Don!

Janice, Jackie, and Don. I'm so sorry about your dad. I had the gift from GOD to give him his last birthday cake with Janice. He complaint " why did you spend your money" We knew he was going to say that but we all laughed. He was always nice to me ,and I loved your dad. I always took the time to listen to him. He had many stories and he was always right even if it was wrong in our eyes. He didn't want that last haircut on his BD. He did eat that cake and he in joyed it. Again my condolences. RIP

Janice, Jack, and Donald,
I am saddened to hear of Uncle Donald's death. I know that, although your dad lived a long life, he will be missed by you, your children, and all of the members of your family, and that you are all experiencing grief. I wish you the best and will think of you, especially over the next few days, weeks, and months, when his loss will be acutely felt.
I know most of what I know about your father from my mother. She always described your dad as a sweet, generous, and kind man. I believe that he was her favorite brother. I know that was a good son and that he adored his mother. Probably the highest compliment I have ever been paid was by your father when, after having not seen me for a few years, he greeted me with tears in his eyes and told me that when he looked at me he saw his mother. It was a moment I will never forget.
Your dad was particularly generous to me in assisting me figure my way to Rochester, New York to see John. I remember many brief, but pleasant conversations when I arrived at the bus station to purchase my ticket. He had the sweetest, most sincere, smile.
