Not sure what to say?

Don was such a good friend dating back to Yaoundé, Cameroon 1961-63 where we both were posted. My late wife, Kay, and I enjoyed visiting Don and Leah several times up in Oregon after both Don and I had retired from the US ForeignService.

Leah, I am so sorry for your loss. I've been thinking of you these days, now that a bit of time has passed and you are settling in to a very different kind of life. One day at a time, one day at a time...it's the only advice that works.

I have lost a great friend dating back to our coinciding tours at Yaounde in Cameroon in 1961. What a conversationalist and drinking buddy! Don lived life to the fullest, and although critical of stupid actions, he was never bitter. He always seemed to be having fun, even -- perhaps, particularly --when helping design and carve out a 9-hole golf course in the Cameroonian jungle.

Condolences to all the family. Don was a larger-than-life figure who will be missed by many around the world. I loved his bright mind, his generous soul, his love of life. I feel honored to have known him.
