Not sure what to say?

Almost ten years ago (2008), I moved into his house as a homestay student. I remember the first day I moved in that he would lead me to the downtown and let me walk around for a couple hours to get a glimpse of Vancouver. He is special for he was the first person I bumped into in my global life. Also, as I recall, I remember how he was warm and respectful towards mischievous, hotheaded 16-year-old kid. I loved every moment in his home, and returned to his place in 2011 for my holiday. It is...

Although we haven't been in touch for the last couple of years we always considered Don a close friend – one of our first friends and colleagues when we moved to BC. He treated us like family and was an extremely generous host. Besides his more well-known artistic and teaching talents, we remember him as a wonderful cook and gardener. We were honored to be invited to his 40th birthday celebration where we met his many brothers. Every time I walk by one of his paintings I will have great...

Like every member of the MacDougall family, Don was a kind and friendly soul. As is his brother Ralph and his dear hearted Mother, he will be missed. From your long ago neighbours, the Burchell's.

I enjoyed my many discussions with Don. I was his teacher and advisor, but in my time at UBC I learned much from him.

What a dear and special friend you were to my family as I grew up in Truro and went through High School.Best memories of watching you and Kevin as "snap" and quarterback for the Cougars. So many nights sneaking in to watch tv with you both at 49 Parker St. You were an amazing tennis player and teacher. I have forgiven you for giving me the name of "Teensa" the name of an elephant that you heard in a news story and decided it somehow fit me...it stuck and you and Kevin call me that name for...

Mence was a permanent feature in our home through most of my Middle and High school years. A best friend to my brother and a famly favorite. Always quiet but with a great sense of humor and laughter. Rest in Peace, dear creative and deeply soulful and caring person. Carole

Words cannot express our sadness in Don's passing. As a colleague at Our Lady of Sorrows he taught us the importance of being true to one's self. He was a supportive and understanding friend. As a teacher to my own children and other students, he touched their a lives by showing a genuine interest in them as individuals, always acknowledging their talents and applauding their accomplishments. Don you will be missed. Our condolences to family and friends. Teresa, Tony, Alicia, J.J. and...

My husband Tim and I only spent two semesters at UBC in the Education department while I worked on my Masters, but in that time, shared a class with Don. It did not take us long to recognize what a special person he was; hearing that we were from out of town, he soon had us over for dinner: an amazing bar-b-q and lots of wine! Only recently, we wondered how Don was doing and had not heard about his illness. I can only imagine the loss felt by his family and close friends considering how sad...
