He was one of the best teachers I ever had: such an agile mind, and so concerned about the welfare of his students. We owed him a lot.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Matticks family. Mr Matticks will be greatly missed. He was such a kind and caring person. Truly one of the greatest persons I have had the privilege to know. His legacy will live on through his wonderful children and grandchildren. #Blessed

Coach Matticks always had a smile and a hug for me every time I saw him in the halls or the student council office at MHS. After graduation and moving a way I would always be treated with that same smile and hug when I'd see him when visiting my parents and going to mass. Coach was such a wonderful man who truly inspired others! Mom would always let me know Don said Hi' when she would see him at mass. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Like so many others, Coach Matticks was one of my favorite teachers/coaches of all time. I am forever grateful for him. He was a model citizen/person/teacher. Fun, funny, caring, book smart, and more importantly, people smart. Every time I think of him, I smile. May all his family be comforted by the legacy which lives on in so many of his former students. Peace to you.

Mr. Matticks (and that is what I have always called him even since 1974) was a special person to my children Scott and Cynthia at Atkins Jr. High. He even consoled me when Cynthia, who had tried out for cheerleader, did not make it after numerous votes. He was a great counselor and was really respected by the students who could easily come to him with questions, help, or just a friendly hello. He was always the same never put on any airs and always available for his students. He will rest...
