Not sure what to say?

I visited Arlington Cemetery yesterday. They had a memorial for all the fallen soldiers since 9/11. Part of the memorial was the option to wear a card around your neck with the name of a hero. I do not personally know anyone on the list, so I asked the gentleman at the desk to pick. He handed me a card with the name Sgt Donald S Oaks Jr on it. I would like to say that I am sorry for your loss, but eternally gratefully for the sacrifice he made. He is remembered.

Thank you Bob and Judy Crissman. Life never returns to normal but the love and kindness of those who continue to remember Don and his ultimate sacrifice does keep us uplifted.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Charlie Gili and Family, your gracious gift of remembrance of Donny and aid to our currently serving military men and women reminds us that good and compassionate people continue to rise above the harshness of the world to show their love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your good deeds and continuing to be a light that shinea forth from the darkness.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Oaks Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May...

Grateful American in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Thank you so much for your post here in Donny's guest book. After 10 years, the void in our hearts is just as pervasive as it was the day we learned of his passing. We cling to posts such as yours for some meaningful comfort as we wonder what kind of person Donny would be today had he lived. Our deepest gratitude to you for your sentiment and your active remembrance of him.

While attending Mercyhurst a friend of mine often spoke fondly of your son. I did not personally know him but his name and sacrifice have a permanent place in my memory. I was showing my class the Washington Post “Faces of the Fallen” Veterans Memorial site today during class…I always click on his picture and story first.

God Bless You,

Thank You for your service, God Bless You, Your Family and the USA.

To the family and friends of Spc. Donald S. Oaks:
Please accept our remembrance of Donald on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.
