I knew Blackie long before I got on the job. I remember well when he worked with Joe Stih. Blackie was always teasing Joe, who was older, about being deaf and blind. Joe always used reading glasses. It was good natured and I know he loved Joe. After Joe retired, Blackie transferred to the 3rd. When I got hired on the job I ended up on a shift with Blackie. First time he was my FTO, and I can clearly still see it in my memory: I finished the Duty Report and handed it to him for his review and...

The world lost a gentleman with one of the biggest hearts. Always kind, smiling, joking, and loyal to anyone who was lucky enough to call him a friend. A great and proud policeman. Blackie was my dad´s partner in Cleveland 6th district in 70´s. Was a real nice guy. May he rest in eternal peace.
