Mr. Donald Nelson Powell, age 64, of 885 Horn Mill Road, Union Mills, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at his residence.

A native of Rutherford County, he was son of the late Horace Edward and Janet Robbs Powell. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Edwin Powell, and two sisters, Madge McCurry and June Edwards. He was a retired textile worker from Cone Jacquard.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda Baynard, two daughters, Lynn Lowery and Tanya Powell, both of Morganton, three sons, David Powell and Wayne Reavis, both of Forest City, and Allan Melton of Winston-Salem. Three sisters, Thelma Harris of Ellenboro, Rhonda Beheler of Forest City, and Debbie Moose of Statesville, Six brothers, Warren Powell and Jerry Powell, both of Forest City, Mike Powell of Bostic, Johnny Powell of Shelby, and Larry Powell and Perry Powell, both of Mooresboro. Seven Grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 6, 2004 at Gilkey United Methodist Church. Rev. David Blizzard, Rev. Cecil Lovelace, and Rev. Jerry Yarboro will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Sunday, September 5, 2004 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

My deepest condolences to the family. I went to school with Johnny and Jerry. My Dad Was Rev. W.M.Jenkins. I was the youngest daughter. My brother Jimmy was closer to Don's age. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
