Shock and profound sadness came over me when I casually asked someone if they had talked with Don as I hadn't heard from him in several months after seeing him at a conference in Reno earlier in 2011. Plans were made for a visit back to Scottsdale, Arizona in May 2012 for he and Gene because he loved it so much. Please accept my condolences. I met Don at Cameron State College (1964), where he participated in the Keathley Rifles Drill Team and ROTC. As the Drill Drill Commander I always appreciated Don's commitment, character, his leadership style & his amiable personality. Dear Gene and family, I just heard today about Don's passing because of a chance encounter with LTC. Boles from Cameron University. My husband and I took him to the Oyster Fry at Fredrick while he was here. I am stunned by the news. Don loved his life and his family!. My sincere sympathies, Shirley Hedrick

I was shocked when I heard (through Scott) the news of Don's death. My heart goes out to you and the whole family. I have many fond memories of both of you. I'm blessed to have known him. My prayers are with you.

Coach Rimer was my Little League baseball coach back in the late 70's. I respected and liked him very much. Although it has been years since I saw him last I still feel like it was yesterday that he was at the Old fields at Harpers Road telling us to take hitting practice or to get in line to run the bases. He has left a lasting impression on me that I will never forget. RIP Coach!!
