Donald M. Schliesman

I have known Don and his family for over 60 years since I joined the faculty at Central in 1964. He was a great friend over all those years. I was Dean of the Graduate School and chaired the selection committee for his appointment as Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Together we were very active in running the university for over 20 years. Don Schliesman is the best example of how one individual can make a difference for the good of one institution and a whole group of people. Life as an employee of CWU would have been much different without Don Schliesman's presence in one of the front offices. Yes, he was always cheerful, always treated everyone equally, but he was always open to what everyone had to say and engaged in whole conversations pro and con the issue. Mr. Schliesman worked with my mother, Joanne Mitchell, for many years at CWU. Although subordinate to Don, he treated her with kindness and humor. He was one of her favorites, and he helped me earn my undergraduate degree eventually.

You children did an excellent job on the write-up. I have many fond memories of your parents and your growing up years. I think of your mother with so much love. Patsy

Although I didn´t know him long, as his caregiver,I found so much joy for life. And how he loved his children and grandchildren. He told me stories that just filled my heart. Such a gentleman and I am so glad that I got to know him. I miss you.

Sending our deepest condolences to Don´s family. He was truly my favorite boss I ever worked for/with. Mostly because he always treated everyone as a coworker. Always a team in his eyes.
