Groton- Donald E. Sloan, 83, of Groton, passed away on Friday Jan.8 at L & M Hospital from chronic kidney disease.

He was born in North Stonington on March 5, 1937, the son of the late John and Alice (Clark) Sloan.

Donald served in the United States Army and then went on to work for Pfizer as a research lab technician for 41 years before retiring.  He married Grace (Chappell) Sloan on August 22,1959 and settled in Mystic where they raised their two daughters. She survives him.

After retirement they settled in Groton and Florida. While he loved being in CT for the summer months, he counted the days until they returned to their Florida home for the winter months.  Donald worked at Walt Disney World, a place he loved so much as a park greeter for 16 years.

Besides his wife Grace of Groton, he is survived by his daughters Sheree and her husband Gregory Baldwin and Sandra and her husband Thomas Summers both of Groton.  His four grandchildren Theresa Cunningham and her partner Erick Nunez of Lake Hamilton, FL., Sarah and Luis Siaca of Winter Haven, FL., Shannon Summers and Christopher Summers both of Groton. He is also survived by two great grandchildren Ruben and Jordan Siaca, sister-in-law Elaine Sloan of Mystic and several nieces and nephews.

Not sure what to say?

Skip and I were so very saddened by the passing of Don. He was a great man who we've known for decades. From softball, bowling, gardening, to being able to visit in Florida, we have tons of wonderful memories! Our thoughts and prayers are with his loving family. We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. Love, Lori and Skip Burton

Fond memories of working and playing ball with Don. May he Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Don was a great teammate and a tough opponent. He was a good guy and always gave it his all. Will miss seeing him and talking to him while playing the 5th hole at Shenny. He will join a great Pfizer softball team in heaven. RIP Don.

Grace - With sincere sympathy I am writing to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of overwhelming sorrow. Don was not only a respected colleague of mine at Pfizer, he was a true friend. We worked on projects together; he was a joy to work with; energetic and upbeat.

Grace I realize that there is little that one can say to assuage your great grief. I do hope that the memories of Don, the loving husband and father that you were...

I am so sorry about the loss of Don. I grew up with him almost as a 2nd dad while sitting in the dug out of countless softball games. As I became an adult, Don always had a smiling face and made me laugh recounting memories of he and my dad. He will very much be missed. With deepest condolences.

A lifetime associate and friend from our Pfizer years, a great softball team member, a dedicated researcher, a good person to know and a great friend. We are so very sorry for his loss and our hearts go out to Grace and his family.

Our hearts go out to your family during this time of sorrow. Always enjoyed Don’s great enthusiasm drive and wit, he will be greatly missed.

May God bless all of our family in this time of sorrow, and keep the Sloan siblings close. We may not be in touch every day but we know we are family and on call at any time without question with love in our hearts.
