Donald Duane Stanzel, son of Barnabus Clark and Bertha Faun (Grace) Stanzel, was born June 4, 1927, on the family farm near Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He received his education in Sioux Rapids Consolidated School, graduating in 1945.

Don enlisted in the United Sates Navy in April 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater until being honorably discharged in August 1946 when he returned to Iowa.

On November 23, 1947 Don was united in marriage to Frances C. Klindt in rural Sioux Rapids. To this union four children were born. Don and Fran made their home on a farm near Sioux Rapids.

Don was employed by the United States Postal Service for thirty four years. In May 1954 he was appointed Post Master at the Sioux Rapids Post Office. He later assumed the position of rural mail carrier until his retirement.

After Don's retirement he and Fran moved to Spencer where they made their home for many years. They both enjoyed wintering in Arizona for several years. Don recently moved to Storm Lake to be near his family.

Don was a member of the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #394, Lions Club and Kiwanis. Don was truly a promoter and supporter of his community.

Don was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. He enjoyed watching their games with friends and family. Don also enjoyed golfing and had been a member of Little Sioux Golf and Country Club for many years.

Don passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa at the age of 88.
