DONALD W. SUTHERLAND

One of the best teachers I ever had. He gave me a view of the world that I wouldn´t have today. The haves and have nots, still part of my thought process. Thank you Mr. Sutherland

I have never forgotten Mr Sutherland and his problems of deomcracy class. He taught me well. My deepest sympathy.

Mr Sutherland's teaching inspired me an understanding that one are all citizens
of one world and interconnected in everything we do.

Don was my "Problems of Democracy " teacher in my senior year at Newton South and advisor to the international club when I was president. He was an engaging teacher and opened my eyes to a world beyond Newton,

I managed to save the paper back book " The Nature of the Non Western World" and after 9/11 I found the book and read the section on the Middle East. Nothing had changed - I did not have to have read the papers for the last 50 years and I could have been current.

Don...

It was with great sadness I heard about Don's passing. I look upon myself as a lucky person to have known Don for nearly 11 years. We meet each year and I would always bring a pencil and notepad because I wanted to memorialize the vast knowledge of American history I always obtained from Don in our conversations. We didn't always agree about the economy or the political state of U.S. affairs but I would always went home with more food for thought. Until we meet again, Don, rest in peace.

Mr. Sutherland was a teacher of mine at Newton South High. He was a great teacher and a wonderful man. A true hero, he will be missed by all who knew him.
