Not sure what to say?

We just learned of Don's passing and are filled with sadness. Don is one of the most joyful and generous persons we have ever known. We hope his spirit will remain with us as inspiration.

Hello,
My name is Russell Smith. I worked for the Seaport from 1989 until 1997 as the Supervisor of Maintenance.
Don was always upbeat, enthusiastic, supportive, inventive and allusive. He would pop up at the beach at Esker Point. He would be at the Brown Memorial Park in Norwich, just to set up his telescope and show anyone who was willing to look, just how insignificant we are, according to the universe. On the opposite side he was showing the optomists to look beyond their...

I was saddened to hear of Don's passing. I used to work at Mystic Seaport in the Membership Office. I would walk by Don and was always greeted with a big smile and cheerful hello. He was always outside in the middle of winter without a coat when it was sooo cold! One evening as I was leaving the Membership Office, he had the telescope set up near the Morgan; I went over and I was able to view Saturn! It was so amazing! Dear Lynn,

We are so sorry for your loss. It was always very special when Don would set up his telescope outside the Artists' Cooperative Gallery of Westerly on Art Stroll night so everyone could gaze in awe at the heavens. May he be at rest.

Best regards,

Elaine and Jim

Don was one of the finest men I have ever known. His love of learning and his passion for passing this love to others made him unforgettable. He was a major influence on both of my sons, one of whom will make astrophysics his profession. Rest in peace, Don.

Dear Sue Ellen,

My sympathy goes out to you. Our community is far poorer for Don's passing. For many of us, Don will live on in our thoughts whenever we go out to study the night sky.

Best regards,

Faith
