Donald A. Umbarger

Donald Auston Umbarger, 73, of Waynesboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 28, 2010.

He was born on May 31, 1937, a son of Elmer and Nellie Coffey Umbarger.

He was a member of the Waynesboro Mennonite Church, was a retired truck driver, and enjoyed bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Umbarger.

Surviving are his son, Curtis L. Umbarger and his wife, Gayle, of Waynesboro; three daughters, Donna Hite and her husband, Albert, of Fishersville, Joanna Hewitt of Grottoes, and Teresa Harris of Waynesboro; three brothers, Ray Umbarger and Lewis Umbarger and his wife, Phyllis, all of Ceres, and Allen Umbarger and his wife, Judy, of Verona; one sister, Barbara Blankenship and her husband, Jim, of Dublin; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Waynesboro Mennonite Church by Pastor Howard Miller. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Baber, Chris Eldridge, Phil Hartzler, Albert Hite, Carl Milsap, and Ester Sims.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Anderson and Joe Arbaugh.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Waynesboro Mennonite Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939, or Waynesboro Mennonite Church, 1801 Monroe Street, Waynesboro, VA 229890.

So sorry to learn of the death of your father/grandfather.

Donna,so sory for your loss. I didn't realize Donald was your father. He was a nice man. His ex-wife Beverly and my father were first cousins.

Don is a good man who loved his family. I will miss him. He was a good friend & ALWAYS ready to offer words of encouragement.

Got to know Donald in my younger days. We went to school together. Whenever we meet on the street anywhere he would always say hello Gene. Was a real good friend. He will be greatly missed.
