I was a freshly minted engineer right out of Purdue when Don Vanderwall hired me into the 727 Power Plant Staff in June of 1965 after I'd worked in the 707 Powerplant Project for three months. He was a darn good lead engineer and I learned a lot from him. He was always a real gentleman. I was shippped to the then new 737 Program located in Seattle in 1966 but I would continue to see "Van" from time to time...

Our condolences to the Vanderwall family. We have been your neighbor on Holly Hill Dr for over 40 years. In recent years we would see Don only as he drove his car up the drive way to get the mail. The last time we had a long talk was at Freda Ericson's sevice on a wet windy Fall day 3 years ago. We drove him to the cemetery and I commented that his suit was very handsome and it was a shame to get it soaked. He said that it was his buriel suit
We spend winter in Arizona now.
