Mrs. Byrne was a fantastic PE teacher and amazing coach. She was a person that really cared about her students and runners. She encouraged me to try out for the middle school cross country team. She noticed I always loved to run in gym and really believed that it would be something I would enjoy. I came out for the cross country team that fall and absolutely loved it. I knew Donna through golf at Great Neck C.C. She was a joy to play with, and one year, we teamed up for the ladies' member-member tournament. Neither of us had been playing very long at that point, so we didn't exactly distinguish ourselves in the event, but we jokingly agreed that we "deserved" to have a few strokes deducted from our score in recognition of our status as the lowest combined body weight in the field! Donna was a sweet and wonderful lady, and I am so very sad to learn...
