Walter J. Zalewski Funeral Home - 44th Street - Pittsburgh Obituary

Age 77, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2020 surrounded by family and a dear friend after a five year courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.  Donna leaves behind her husband Ernest of 56 years, her three children, Michael (Lori), Ernie (Anna) and Michelle.   Donna was a dedicated wife, mother and friend, but above all she was treasured “Dodo” to her grandchildren Dylan, Olivia, Zachary and Grace.  Donna was born on December 2, 1942 in the Polish Hill area and recently lived in Swisshelm Park.  Donna had a passion for gardening, cooking and shopping at thrift sales.  She was a people person and was eager to listen to life stories, help anyone in need and always eager to give advice to anyone she met. Nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with her family, her loyal dog Fufu, and especially her grandchildren who she loved dearly.  Donna’s strong Polish personality gave her the ability to embrace life fully and fight cancer ferociously until the very end.  Her family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Nathan Bahary and the care team at The Hillman Cancer Center who not only took excellent care of Donna but also made a difficult time more bearable with the friendship and support they gave to her. Donations in her memory can be made to GI Transformative Research Fund – Nathan Bahary Pancreatic Research.  Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Monday, June 29, 2020 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
