Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Inc. Obituary

The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Inc., announces with the deepest sympathy the transition of Mrs. Dora Martin Davis.

Dora Martin Davis was born in Montgomery, Alabama on January 5, 1932, to the late William & Helen Martin.

Dora graduated from North Carolina Central University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science, and then continued on to a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Denver. After college, she accepted the role as librarian at Bishop State Community College, where she affected the lives of endless students during her 32 year tenure.

In 1955, Dora married Howard Leroy Davis of Apopka, Florida. Their two children, Howard Leroy Patrick Davis and Allison Laurice Davis are a testament of their love and desire to share God’s love with future generations.

As a dedicated and faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Dora was active in numerous church organizations and activities, including the Cabrini Alter Society, the Drexel Society (Prichard Chapter), and the St. Francis Xavier Choir. Dora was awarded the Christ the King medal in 2014 and served on the National Black Catholic Congress, after an appointment by Archbishop Lipscomb.

Dora was a proud and distinguished member of the Delta Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she served on numerous committees and contributed countless hours of service. Her life and dedication to the sorority led to her recognition as a Pearl member, which denotes 65 years of service.

Dora is survived by one son, Patrick Davis (Tracy), of Mill Creek, WA; one daughter, Allison Davis, of Katy, TX; one brother, Yancey Martin, of Virginia; two grandsons: Daniel Davis and Caleb Davis; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers (William Martin, Bertram Martin, and Ralph Martin), and two sisters (Myrtle Gray and Rose Jones).

Not sure what to say?

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved mom. I met Dora at St. Francis Xavier. She always had a ready smile and kind word. May her beautiful soul RIP.

In the 1980´s, Mrs Davis shopped in the grocery store where I worked. To this day, I remember her grace and demeaner. She had a beautiful soul...absolutely one of my favorite customers. Even though I only knew her for a short period of my life, I´m thankful that our paths crossed. Condolences to the family of a wonderful lady.

Aunt Dora! I learned how to be a FRIEND, AN EXTENDED SISTER, AN AUNT, A MOTHER, and A PROFESSIONAL.. growing up in our FAMILY. Allison and Patrick - I love you! You are a sister and brother to me forever!

My deepest sympathy to the family in this time of earthly loss but heavenly gain.

Laurice, Patrick and Family, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dora was a beautiful, kind caring friend. Our unique friendship developed as co-worker, a friendship that I will forever cherish. Know that your Mother shaped the lives of many and was loved by many people. Her memories will always be in our hearts.
Much Love
Demone & Faye

My deepest condolences to the family for a very beautiful Lady. May you find peace in the memories you share together.
