Bailey & Foster Funeral Home - Palestine Obituary

Funeral services for Dora Marie Hortman Quarles, 84 of Elkhart, will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 4, 2014, at First Baptist Church Elkhart, with Rev. Bill Gernenz officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Quarles passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Cartmell Home for the Aged. She was born February 9, 1929 in Elkhart, to Marvin Claude Hortman and Helen G. McKinney Hortman. She was a bookkeeper and a member of First Baptist Church Elkhart. She was also a member of the WMU, Sassy Chicks, former PTA member, and was an avid bowler and square dancer.
Mrs. Quarles was preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy Quarles, sisters Bessie Scroggins, Bulah Gilcrease, Jewel Rainey and Martha Dunham, brothers Junior and Elbert Hortman. She is survived by her sons Norman Quarles and wife Janice of Houston, Paul Quarles and wife Terry of Round Rock, and Jon Quarles of Houston, brother Marion Hortman and wife Kathleen of Elkhart, favorite granddaughter Kelly Quarles, grandsons LCpl Casey Quarles USMC, Neil Quarles and Keanan Quarles and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Casey Quarles, Neil Quarles, Kenneth Shipper, Darrell Hortman, Jack Wayne Dickey and Gene Ruhman.
A special thank you for Bobby and Myrna Stovall, for all of their loving care.
Condolence calls will be received two hours before the service at First Baptist Church Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church Elkhart building fund.
