Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Burkburnett Obituary

Doris June Boatman, 73, of Burkburnett passed away Monday, January 3, 2021.


The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2021 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2021 in the Chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.  Graveside services will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Vernon.


Doris was born on March 11, 1948 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Edward Elmer and Lillian Estelle (Withers) Smith.  She married the love of her life, Jimmy Claud Boatman on October 10, 1964, and the couple were married just shy of 30 years upon his passing in 1994.  Doris and Jimmy ran the Custom Cobbler Boot and Shoe Repair in Burkburnett, and then in Wichita Falls.  Doris sold the business after Jimmy’s passing, and began working for the Burk ISD.  She loved watching game shows, the Texas Rangers, and never missed a Dallas Cowboy game, even while in the hospital.  She also had a love of gambling, the casinos, and Las Vegas.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Aubrey Smith; and sisters Dorothy Brown, and Eva Cross.


Doris is survived by sons Jimmy E. Boatman, and Mark Boatman and wife Beth of Burkburnett; daughter Shelly Boatman Wilson and fiance’ Johnny Medillin of Wichita Falls; her pride and joy, grandchildren Jimmy C Boatman and wife Margo of Grandfield, Christina Cunningham and husband Aaron of Fort Worth, Joe Boatman of Burkburnett, Arthur Boatman of Arlington, Chase Wilson and wife Jessica, and Cameron Wilson of Burkburnett, Coleton Wilson of Fort Worth, and Breanna Medillin of Cardington, Ohio; and her greatest blessings, great-grandchildren Lane, Cody, Vincent, Connor, Chloee, Jimma, and Collin; sister Patricia Freeman of Paris; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
