WEST COLUMBIA: Graveside service for Doris Wingate Derrick, 85, will be held 2pm Monday, July 24, 2006, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Charles N. Westbrook and Rev. Evelyn Middleton officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class and the Young At Heart of Brookland United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm this (SUNDAY) evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Brookland United Methodist Church, 541 Meeting St., West Columbia, SC or to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178.
Mrs. Derrick, widow of James H. Derrick, died peacefully surrounded by her children and family, Friday, July 21, 2006. Born in New Brookland, SC, she was a daughter of the late Manly Asa and Bessie B. Mooneyhan Wingate. She was a longtime member of Brookland United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart. Mrs. Derrick was retired from the Mt. Vernon Mills.
Surviving are her children, Mike and Jackie Derrick of Lexington, Bobby and Donna D. Jarvis of Columbia, Charles and Jane D. Westbrook of West Columbia and Rick and Jean D. Rivers of Lexington; sisters, June W. Gay of West Columbia and Helen W. Yonce of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren, Michael (Anne) Derrick, Wendy D. (Mac) McKinley, Christy Derrick, Jennifer W. (John) Powell, David (Selinda) Westbrook, Laura R. (Ray) Kyzer and Dan Rivers; twelve great grandchildren. Mrs. Derrick was preceded in death by a brother, Milton A. Wingate, two sisters, Grace W. Garrick and Vondell W. Butler and Zellie Cooper Wingate Costner, her step-mother who raised her.
A special thank you for the loving kindness and care given to Mrs. Derrick by the doctors, nurses and staff of Lexington Medical Center ICU Third Floor.
